Haute Ecole Robert Schuman modernises its entire network infrastructure with support from Nomios

Haute Ecole Robert Schuman (HERS) decided to renew its entire network infrastructure. Over the years, a complex and outdated IT environment had developed, spread across three campuses and an administrative headquarters in the province of Luxembourg. HERS was therefore looking for a partner who could not only supply the right technology, but also provide the expertise to efficiently oversee a large-scale modernisation project.

“Over the years, we had built up a highly heterogeneous and outdated IT architecture,” explains Geoffrey Szablot, IT Manager at HERS. “In addition to the limitations of the outdated technology, the lack of uniformity created additional complexity in terms of management and support. Different technologies each required specific expertise, which made our IT operations less flexible.”

A future-proof network, built from scratch

To tackle these challenges, HERS opted for an ambitious approach: redesigning and rolling out the entire network and Wi-Fi infrastructure in line with a single, coherent architecture. A project of this scale typically requires substantial investment, specialist knowledge and a strong project organisation. HERS chose Nomios as its partner to carry this out.

“What appealed to us was the combination of technical expertise, guidance and project management,” says Szablot. “Nomios has in-depth knowledge of network technologies and constantly monitors the market. As a result, we could rely on advice that not only met our current needs but also took future developments into account.”

A single integrated approach to the network and Wi-Fi

A key requirement for HERS was to address both the network and Wi-Fi infrastructure within a single integrated project. Thanks to the close collaboration between the teams at HERS and Nomios, a solution was developed that was fully aligned with the university’s operational and strategic objectives.

“Nomios guided us throughout the entire process, from design and implementation to aftercare and support. That support was particularly valuable. Much of the specialist knowledge required for a project of this scale is difficult to build up in-house or to keep permanently available.”

Less complexity, greater efficiency

The new infrastructure not only delivers better performance and greater reliability, but also significantly simplifies day-to-day management. By standardising on a single technology platform, the IT team gains a much clearer overview of the entire environment. This makes support more efficient and enables HERS to respond more quickly to enquiries from students, staff and lecturers.

Future expansions will also be simpler. For example, HERS can seamlessly integrate new locations or buildings within the same architecture, whilst maintaining consistency and manageability.

In addition to the technical implementation, HERS particularly emphasises the quality of the collaboration.
